How to Fill a Hot Tub - Spa Filling Guide

So, you have your hot tub installed, setup and all ready to use. Are you ready to fill it up? Here's how to fill it up the right way:

Step 1) Make sure your electricity is switched off. Now, lets talk about water. Do you know what type of water you have running through your pipes? Is it soft or hard? Its important to know that hard water can cause stains, scales and deposits of calcium. Soft water on the other hand isn't your best friend either because it can be more corrosive. Avoid softened tap water for sure. As far as cold or hot goes, we recommend starting out with warm water.

Step 2) Take out the filter that was factory installed. Put the end of your garden hose a couple of inches inside the pipe or the place where the filter was.

Step 3) Switch on the water through the hose at full pressure. The spa should start filling up at this point.

Step 4) Verify the level of water and the depth to which you will be filling water (also called fill depth). The right fill depth is a couple of inches (2-3 at most) above the filter (the top). If you get the fill depth wrong, water might not be circulated properly within your spa

Step 5) Once the spa is filled up and you have replaced the filter cartridge, its time to switch on the power (ideally with the help of an electrician or someone who knows what they're doing).

Step 6) Switch the jet buttons on and off repeatedly. This is to make sure that the water is flowing properly and the jets are functioning as they should. Confirm that the flow of water from all the jets is the same. If not, call your spa company's service center phone number and email their support team.

Step 7) Once the spa is filled up, add about 2 ounces of an anti-scaling and anti-staining product for every 250 gallons of water. This is something that you should do every time you drain and refill the spa. These anti-scaling and anti-staining products will get rid of the harmful metals and minerals that will affect the spa surface. In about fifteen minutes, also add a teaspoon of chlorine and either bromine tablets. Check your equipment guide or call the service number to confirm the quantity of anything you add to the water.

Step 8) This is the fun step where you set your temperature. We think a temperature between 100 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit is ideal.
