There are several natural cures for dark under eye circles. They work together, with no side effects, and their effects are long lasting. In fact, they get better and better over time.
These are not "instant" cures. The truth is, there are no instant cures in health and skin care. (Promises of "instant cures" are always frauds, in my opinion.) But your skin will get steadily healthier, and you'll see results at modest cost, if you use the natural cures for dark under eye circles.
Natural
The only thing that works "right this minute" is makeup. That's it. I'm not sneering, believe me. A little makeup in a warm color, peach or whatever complements your overall skin tone, is great when you want to look good this very morning or evening. It's a confidence booster if your dark circles are bothering you. But this is first aid, not a cure.
I'll mention some health-related factors, because you can't ignore your overall health if you want your complexion and area around the eyes to look their best.
-- Cut way back on sugars and starches, and take a supplement containing at least 50 mg a day of Carnosine. That's because sugars and starches are big underminers of our health, including skin health. Carnosine is the only known natural cure for a destructive process called glycation, which destroys proteins, including the key skin protein collagen.
-- Don't rub your eyes. Period. Find another way to soothe them. The natural folk remedies that soothe the eyes are cool cucumber slices placed over the dark circles for 5-20 minutes, and cool tea bags, used the same way.
-- The most common cause of dark circles under the eyes is fluid leaking from the tiny blood vessels (capillaries) under the skin. The skin is thin and very sensitive in this area.
The capillaries contain hemoglobin, the substance that carries oxygen in red blood cells to your entire body. Hemoglobin loses oxygen when it leaks from the capillaries, and turns bluish. As it builds up it looks darker, often purple or blue-black.
Leaking capillaries inevitably means reduced circulation in this area. The skin gets puffy, as well as darker. The darker color is more obvious when the skin gets thinner through premature aging from neglect or lack of nourishment.
There are two modern ingredients that have shown the most impressive results in dealing with these issues. Each is refined from a different group of natural proteins and olive oil,
-- Eyeliss works by improving drainage, strengthening the capillaries (to stop leaking), reducing irritation, and increasing skin firmness and elasticity. In one clinical trial, 65 percent of volunteers showed a marked reduction in bags after four weeks.
-- More than 60 percent of volunteers using another ingredient called Haloxyl showed a significant reduction in dark circles under the eyes in an eight-week trial.
One other possible cause of dark circles is uneven skin coloring. Some people inherit a tendency to get darker skin in certain areas. If you want to lighten specific areas of your skin that bother you, or even if you want to lighten your overall complexion, there is another natural remedy that works well.
-- Extrapone Nutgrass Root reduces the skin's production of melanin by more than 40 percent. Since melanin is the pigment that gives skin its coloring (the more melanin, the darker the skin), you can lighten darker skin with this ingredient. It's part of a formula that both lightens and nourishes the skin -- a nice contrast to the irritating skin lighteners that have been around for a long time.
